How to Drink Scotch Whisky:

There’s No Wrong Way

One of the biggest myths about Scotch whisky is that there’s a “correct” way to drink it. The truth? The best way is simply the way you enjoy it.

That said, there are a few popular approaches.

Drinking whisky neat—on its own, without ice or mixers—lets you experience the full character of the spirit. It’s often how distillers intend their whisky to be enjoyed.

Adding a splash of water can open up the flavours, softening the alcohol and revealing subtle notes you might not notice otherwise.

Ice is another option. While it cools the drink and can mellow stronger flavours, it may also reduce some of the aroma. For some, that’s a worthwhile trade-off.

And then there are cocktails. While purists might hesitate, Scotch can work beautifully in classic drinks like a Whisky Sour or a Rob Roy.

Ultimately, drinking Scotch isn’t about rules—it’s about discovery. Try it different ways and see what suits your taste.
